“There’s a movement brewing of people who are done being told who they can and can’t be, and especially what they can and can’t accomplish. No more, “Who do they they think they are?” We are exactly who we think we are, and that is a power that can ignite global change.”

Macklemore, Ms. Rachel, and Not Giving a Sh*t What Billionaires Think

This week, before the Cornell 7 case swept our feeds (-1,000,000 out of five pyres), two very different cultural leaders spoke out to protect the people and children of Palestine. What do Macklemore and Ms. Rachel have in common? Certainly not their genre of music, or target audience.

What they have in common is that they’re both independent creators. Macklemore creates his music, his way, and has built his own platform. Ms. Rachel started her multi-million dollar YouTube Channel from her living room couch. They’re not owned by a huge record label or production company.

This is why I’m passionate about ending the generational witch wound holding people with integrity back from creating their own platforms. When you build your own platform, you get to make the rules. That means you’re free to speak out. You’re free to be an active ally and activist. You’re free to use your platform to raise marginalized voices and stories.

True freedom in this system is not being beholden to those who benefit from your silence.

I want that for you. I want that for all of humankind. Emphasis on kind.

We need more kind people with microphones, with capital, and with audacity… and less billionaires.

That’s it for this week.

Keep showing up for yourself, your community, and your world. When you do, you give other people permission to do the same.

- Epiphany, your worthy witch
